Look Back at Your Life
One thing very important to the practice of yoga is learning to look back at your life. People tell you all the time to be in the present and never look back, but it is vital that you take a look back and deal with any issues from way back when.
Some of us have had parents who weren’t supportive or abusive. Some of us had a spouse who was the same way; non-supportive or abusive. Maybe we aren’t proud of the way we treated people way back in the day. Or we’ve done something that we just weren’t very proud of.
Everyone has some kind of issue that they need to deal with, if they haven’t already, and in order to really be in the moment, to live in the present, you have to take a look back and learn to let those feelings go.
Forgive anyone who you feel as done you wrong. Anger or hate can only hurt who you are now. If you don’t think you can do that, just try to remember that when you forgive someone, you are helping yourself and not them. They don’t even have to know that you have forgiven them. This is for you and not for anyone else. And that’s what is important though this process. If you feel like you need to tell someone you forgive them then by all means, do it. But just know that it isn’t necessary to let them know – but it is entirely up to you.
Forgive yourself for anything you feel you need forgiveness for. If you hold a grudge against yourself and can’t find it in your heart to forgive yourself you will never be able to live in the present moment and you won’t have much of a future to look forward to. You deserve forgiveness just as much, if not more, than anyone in your life. Really forgive yourself so you can move on and live a happier, healthier life.
If you feel like you need to ask someone for forgiveness you should do that too. However, in some cases it might not be possible and you also might end up with someone who isn’t willing to forgive you for something. That will only cause more problems that what you started with so I’m not sure it’s a good idea to do that. Just forgive yourself and that should be enough.
If you have struggled with the ability to love yourself just the way you are. Work harder every day to get over that obstacle. You deserve love from yourself and you need it to get through life and the daily struggles that most of us face. Do it however you need to; affirmations every day, being kind to yourself at least once a day to start off with; whatever it is that makes you feel loved and important to yourself is what you need to do.
Don’t let anyone sidetrack you or try to make you feel “less than” because you aren’t. Accept yourself exactly the way you are right now and it will make life much better for you. Practicing self-acceptance is something that we all need to do and you are no different. You deserve love and acceptance and no one can give it to you as much as you can.
After you take that look back, forgive others and yourself you can then approach your new life with no regrets at all. Don’t keep yourself trapped in the past by continuing to regret something you did or didn’t do. Accept that what happened in the past has been addressed and then move on to your much better future.
There is no harm in taking the time to look back at your life, but do it quickly, forgive and be ready to move forward. You don’t want to spend too much time in the past but in order to move on it is important to face the demons that might be back there waiting for a time to strike. Don’t allow them to do that so that your “in the moment” and future will be much brighter.
Life should be a wonderful and happy journey. Choose to make it that way and get rid of all the stuff and people who want to try to hold you back. You are in control now and you should take hold of the reins and be the person you are meant to be!
